An English language web portal, devoted to experiencing the total eclipse of the sun of 2009 in Japan. This site has been launched by ECLIPSE GUIDE.NET on July 22, 2008, precisely a year before the eclipse.
ECLIPSE GUIDE.NET is a cross-media project run by a group of eclipse chasers. Fascinated by the total eclipse of the sun, the members are dedicated to travel and culture related to this significant event.
On February 2006, TOTAL ECLIPSE HUNTER'S GUIDE was published from a Japanese publishing house, INFAS Publications. A month later, the website ECLIPSE GUIDE NET (http://eclipseguide.net/) was launched. The contents are not only about the astronomical phenomenon itself, but deal extensively on world wide culture and travel associated with it.
We have traveled around the globe chasing the total eclipse, and have had the opportunity to meet many people from many countries. Although we had trouble understanding the language at times, we were able to get around safely and enjoy the eclipse by the kindness of the local people. We hope to do something in return by launching this site. By posting useful information in English, we would like to make it easier for non-Japanese travelers to gather information.
This is a non-profit site run by volunteer staff. We try our best, but you may notice some limitations. Support from anyone (inside/outside Japan) who share our enthusiasm is always welcome. Please contact us to make a contribution.
