MOON SHADOW - A documentary about the Amami eclipse in Japan 2009

On tropical Myojinzaki beach, Amami Island, Japan, eclipse chasers from all over the world gathered for a 9 day music festival. The event peaked on July 22nd 2009 at 10.55 am in the Moon's shadow as it totally eclipsed the Sun.

Amami traditional song & dance cultures meld with techno dance music, while priests light ceremonial fires as a cosmic drama unfolds in an exotic setting.

Chasers elucidate the passion for chasing eclipses and the significance of the conjunction of the Moon with the Sun, astronomically, astrologically, culturally and personally.

Appearing are spiritual scientist, Kohsan Handa, eclipse theorist, Yuichi Ishikawa and new age guru, Keichi Ueno.

World wide, an outdoor dance party culture movement has evolved around eclipses each year. The distinctively refined outdoor party culture of Japan is reflected in this artistic, multi-cultural event on a paradise beach, which is also home to a mystical poisonous snake, habu.
